As you can imagine, as a voluntary organisation we rely 100% on fundraising and donations to be able to continue running the group – the minimal fees we charge our pack members each week barely covers the cost of the insurance we are legally obliged to pay for every member. There is no automatic financial support available to us on the basis we are a registered charity – if we need money we have to apply for grants or do a fundraising drive.
Our headquarters are over 150 years old, and as such require a great deal of upkeep to prevent them falling into an unsafe condition – our heating bills alone run into thousands of pounds every quarter! We rely on a very small circle of willing volunteers to help with maintenance, or the occasional good-natured workman to carry out specialist work at a discount.
All of which adds up to a very large amount of money needed every year so we can continue running the group and providing a much-needed resource for the young people of Ebbw Vale.
We hold at least two fetes every year at which we sell items that have been donated, and we are always happy to receive more items, so please give us a call or bring the items along to our HQ.
With 2010 being our Centenary Year, we held more special events than usual for all our members to enjoy, and these of course cost a great deal of money, so even the smallest donation is always very much appreciated.
